I have confirmed the date and details of the first design and decorating workshop, which is hopefully the first of many. Places are filling up fast in the first workshop

Everyone has their own way of decorating. Every  professional has a personal style, a process, techniques, rules and secrets. Every interior designer or decorator has a way of conjuring a room, designing a house and creating a home. It’s a process learned and finessed over many years. I have mine and it’s deeply personal to me. My way of decorating is based on many years experience, trial and error, self teaching, research, practise and refining. My style has evolved, developed and matured over the years but is intrinsically the same as it was 30 years ago. I love classic and timeless interiors, with an American influence. And of course, plenty of blue and white!

My way isn’t the only way, or necessarily the best way, but it’s the way I do it and I am happy to share my process with you so you can go home and redefine this to reflect you.

I’m a self taught interior designer who started as a housewife decorator and I’m proud of it, but I don’t claim to know it all. I do believe however, that I have an innate skill, an eye for decorating and a knack for renovating. I have developed my abilities and my craft over many years, through a combination of a lot of hard work and my own study and practical application, and whilst my learning curve is far from finished, I certainly have amassed enough knowledge to share my secrets to creating beautiful family friendly homes with you.

What I will share with you

If you would like to learn the secrets of decorating in my style, learn my craft and the tips and techniques behind my way of home decorating, then please join me in Bowral for a day of inspiration and learning with fellow decorating and design lovers and home decorators, where I will teach you what I know about how to make a beautiful home. Why not get a few friends together and make a weekend of it? Bowral is magical at this time of year.

This is not a workshop for professionals, but a place for the home decorator and design devotee to learn skills and glean ideas, inspiration and information about how to make better decorating and renovating choices and design like a pro. I will teach you my personal  tricks of the trade and my secrets and techniques. You will go home feeling more confident and inspired about making the right decisions for your home or project.

If you know me you will know my signature style. It’s one which combines a timeless and classic American influenced aesthetic with a modern sensibility, reinventing traditional and creating beautiful homes that are at once elegant and relaxed, luxurious and casual, refined and liveable, but always warm and welcoming.

You know I’m a busy mum of three, my house often looks like a bomb site, and I sometimes struggle to keep control of the kid clutter. But despite all that I still believe a stylish home and kids need not be mutually exclusive. I believe you can create a sophisticated, inviting and liveable home where children are comfortable and welcome but where design and beauty are never compromised. We all want a house that wouldn’t look out of place on the pages of America’s House Beautiful or Veranda magazine, so dream big and come and learn how.

Plan for the day

We will start the day with morning tea at the Bowral cottage we have recently renovated where I will take you through the house and discuss in detail how it was decorated. I will share with you my choices for the colour scheme, paint colours, fixtures and fittings, flooring, hardware, lighting, kitchen, laundry and bathroom details and much more.

I will also share how the decorating and overall style came  together and share my inspiration. We will discuss my process of decorating and I will provide you with plenty of information about how to make sensible, practical, informed but inspired design and decorating decisions for yourself.

We will then adjourn for an private catered lunch at local iconic homewares market Dirty Jane’s Antique Emporium, followed by some free time perusing the market and the many wonderful shops in Bowral.

After lunch we will finish the day at our home where we will continue the decorating workshop and I will share with you my process of decorating on a larger scale. We will discuss a range of topics including my favourite fabric combinations, and go to paint colours, how I pick lighting and hardware, furniture, artwork, accessories, wainscoting and wallpapers.

We will finish with a glass of bubbles and a hopefully have time to fit in a Q & A session. Here you will have the opportunity to ask questions about your own project. By the end of the day you will be equipped to go home and create your own comfortable, family friendly but always classically elegant interiors.
